    Plot: Susanne Wallner returns to the ruins of Berlin from a Concentration Camp after WW2 to discover that someone else lives in her apartment: Dr. Hans Mertens, the war made him depressive and he drinks a lot of alcohol. Susanne asks him to go but he doesnt want to, so they share Susannes apartment and even discover their sympathy and then their love for each other. That encourages him a little, of course. But then he hears that Ferdinand Br?ckner is still alive and also lives in Berlin. Br?ckner was his Captain during WW2, he gave the order to kill more than 100 innocent people, many children and women among them, on Christmas 1942 in Poland.

    Errors in geography: Although the movie is set in Germany, palm trees can be seen during the exterior shots and the geography and exterior architecture denotes the landscape that of southern Europe.

    • The world premiere took place just one day before the first sentences in the Nuremberg Trails were carried out, and ten war criminals were hanged.
    • Shortly before the premiere, it was decided that leading actor Ernst Wilhelm Borchert was not to be mentioned on posters and in the credits, since he had forged his forms of denazification. He had omitted that he had been a member of the NSDAP since 1933, but it later turned out his connection to the party was without further consequences.
